After an exhausting day of school, it is always a good choice to award me with sweets, especially during the final weeks. My friend and I decided to go to a Taiwanese dessert shop near our school, which is 東門茶樓.
Profile
東門茶樓 is right beside Ruifeng Night Market (瑞豐夜市) They sell various kind of desserts, such as tofu pudding (豆花), shave ice and grass jelly (仙草). It is popular on Instagram. Lots of teens went there and commented it is delicious. My friend and I tried top 2 famous dishes.
2 famous dishes
Top 1: 京都抹茶 & 抹茶甜心圈 (a set) $169NT
On the left side, it is 抹茶甜心圈, which is Matcha Jelly with some sweetened red beans and Matcha ice cream on the top. It is the best dessert that you can eat when it is a sunny day. As soon as you eat the jelly and ice- cream together, you won't feel hot again. It is a refreshing and tasty dessert. There is no artificial sugar in the jelly, just pure Matcha with jelly power. If you want some sweetness, you can eat it with sweetened red beans.
On the right side, it is 京都抹茶, which is Matcha shave ice with some toppings. These toppings are Matcha Jelly and Tangyuan. This one is my favorite among all three. It is pure Matcha shave ice, without any artificial sugar in it. It is different from other Matcha stores, where they use some Matcha powder and artificial sugar to make the shave ice. The texture is smooth and soft. As soon as you put it into your mouth, the ice melts inside.
Top 2: 藏寶閣雪巴冰 $100NT
This dish is also shaved ice with tons of toppings. On the top, there is a vanilla ice cream with some Blackstrap molasses. On the side, there are green beans, grass jelly, Tangyuan and sweet taro. The flavors of this shave ice are vanilla. It is sweeter compare to Matcha. The texture of the ice is the same as Matcha, smooth and soft. Sweet taro and Tangyan are sweetener toppings compared to grass jelly and green beans.
There are lots of dishes in the shop that I haven't try before, feel free to try them and make sure to leave me some comments. :) If you ever come to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, you should come try some Taiwanese ice cream. I strongly recommended this restaurant, 東門茶樓. After you finish eating shave ice, you can go to night market right beside to eat more delicious dishes and play some games.
